STRICT ENFORCEMENT OF THE NATIONAL VEHICLE HOMOLOGATION AND CONFORMITY ASSESSMENT PROGRAMME FROM 1 OCTOBER 2026

    Notice No: GSA/DGS/PN/26/08

The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) wishes to inform the general public, vehicle manufacturers, assemblers, importers, distributors, dealers and all stakeholders that, although the National Vehicle Homologation and Conformity Assessment Programme has been in operation since 2020, the strict enforcement of the applicable national vehicle standards, including the Ghana Standard 4510 (GS 4510 – Requirements for the Importation of Used Vehicles), will commence on 1 October 2026.

The Programme is intended to ensure that all vehicles imported into, assembled or manufactured in Ghana comply with the applicable national safety, quality and environmental standards. It also seeks to protect consumers from unsafe, substandard and environmentally harmful vehicles while promoting a safer, cleaner and more regulated automotive industry.

Effective 1 October 2026, all new vehicle manufacturers and assemblers, as well as used vehicle importers, distributors and dealers, are required to register with the Ghana Standards Authority and ensure that all new vehicle models are homologated, while all used vehicle units conform to the applicable Ghana Standards before shipment to Ghana. Vehicles that do not meet the prescribed requirements will not be permitted for importation into the country on arrival.

It is worth noting that this does not constitute a ban on the importation of used vehicles. The Ghana Standards Authority encourages all stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the applicable requirements and take the necessary steps to ensure compliance before importing vehicles into Ghana. Beautician Eyes Miss Galaxy Ghana Crown with Women Empowerment Agenda

A young entrepreneur and beautician, Jemima Mawuena Asuo, has joined the race for the coveted Miss Galaxy Ghana 2026 crown with a strong pledge to champion women’s empowerment through skills development and entrepreneurship.

The second-cycle school graduate believes that empowering women with practical skills is one of the most effective ways of creating confident leaders capable of transforming their communities.

According to her, beauty should not be measured solely by physical appearance but by the confidence, purpose and positive impact an individual brings to society.

“As a beautician and entrepreneur, I learnt early that beauty is more than what’s on the surface; it’s the confidence you walk with,” she said.

She explained that years of helping women build confidence through beauty and self-care inspired her to broaden her vision by advocating initiatives that equip women with vocational and entrepreneurial skills.

“My advocacy is centred on women empowerment by equipping women with skills to become change-makers. Skills give confidence, confidence builds leaders, and leaders change communities,” she stated.

Jemima said life’s challenges had strengthened her resilience and prepared her to use the Miss Galaxy Ghana platform to inspire young women to believe in themselves and pursue opportunities that would improve their lives and those of others.

She is therefore appealing to Ghanaians to support her journey by voting in the ongoing competition.

Supporters can vote by dialling *365*303#, entering her contestant code MG3, and following the prompts.

This year’s Miss Galaxy Ghana competition continues to position itself as more than a beauty pageant by providing a platform for young women to promote social causes, leadership, entrepreneurship and community development. Organisers have encouraged contestants to use their advocacy projects to drive meaningful change while showcasing confidence, intelligence and creativity on the national stage.

Jemima believes the crown would provide her with a bigger platform to inspire more young women to acquire employable skills, embrace entrepreneurship and become agents of positive transformation in their communities.

Hollard Insurance launches “We Cover You” campaign

Hollard Ghana has officially launched it’s new nationwide brand campaign called “We Cover You” aimed at correcting public misconceptions about the company.

This will help reinforce Hollard’s identity as an insurance provider committed to protecting the lives, families, livelihoods, homes, businesses, other valuable assets and dreams of Ghanaians ahead of unforeseen events.

The campaign was unveiled at the Achimota Retail Centre in Accra on Friday, 24th July, 2026.

Hollard through the symbolic use of vibrant purple cloth representing care, protection and security, the campaign demonstrates how Hollard provides financial protection and peace of mind across every stage of life.

Daniel Boi Addo, The Managing Director of Hollard Insurance, described the campaign as one of its most significant strategic investment.

He said the “We Cover You” campaign was a bold initiative aimed at helping Ghanaians better understand the Hollard brand and the services it offers.

He explained that the “We Cover You” campaign, is designed to make conversations around contributions, contracts and policies less technical and focus more on how insurance could protect people in their everyday lives.

“Hollard is committed to helping more Ghanaians create and secure a better future by protecting what matters most to them”, he stated.

He noted that many people had long associated the Hollard name with products such as fabric because of its similarity to other familiar names, making it important for the company to clearly distinguish itself as an insurer.

“We are taking advantage of this opportunity to explain exactly what we do so people can associate the Hollard brand with insurance,” he said.

According to him, Hollard’s aim is to increase insurance awareness and expand access among underserved communities.

He encouraged more Ghanaians to purchase the “We Cover You” insurance because it protects homes, businesses, vehicles, families and livelihoods.

Madam Aviel Benni Derry, Acting Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at Hollard Ghana, said the campaign was developed after the company engaged customers, partners and the public to better understand their perception of the Hollard brand.

She said the campaign was specially designed to turn those assumptions into an opportunity to introduce Ghanaians to Hollard as an insurance company committed to protecting lives, families, homes and businesses.

According to her, the company decided to tell a human-centredstory that begins with public assumptions before revealing Hollard’s true purpose.

Madam Derry explained that the campaign’s central creative symbol, cloth, was chosen because it universally represents warmth, comfort, care, dignity and protection.

“Throughout the campaign, cloth is shown embracing families, homes, vehicles and businesses to visually demonstrate the invisible promise of the “we cover you” insurance” she said.

She expressed appreciation to Hollard’s leadership, staff, creative partners and collaborators whose commitment helped bring the campaign to life

She urged audiences to look beyond the visuals and discover the true identity and purpose of the Hollard brand.

Dr. Kingsley Kwesi Kwabahson, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA), commended Hollard for taking an innovative approach to strengthening public understanding of insurance.

He said the campaign was aimed at making Hollard a household name in Ghana’s insurance industry.

“It is important for the company to clearly define its identity” he said.

Dr. Kwabahson said the responsibility of building trust in insurance was a shared one, urging the media, industry players and policyholders to help communicate the value of insurance to the public.

He stressed that insurers must continue to honour legitimate claims promptly and policies must be as simple as possible to make consumers associate with exactly what it is that the policy gives

Stanbic Bank becomes first bank in Ghana to offer direct Chinese Yuan settlement via CIPS

Stanbic Bank Ghana, a member of Standard Bank Group, has become the first bank in Ghana to offer clients direct access to the China Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS), following approval from the Bank of Ghana. This milestone positions the Bank at the forefront of Standard Bank Group’s continental rollout after the Group became the first African banking group to be licensed as a direct participant in CIPS.

CIPS is a wholesale payment system authorised by the People’s Bank of China for the clearing and settlement of cross-border transactions in Chinese Yuan (CNY). It provides a secure, efficient and cost-effective alternative to the SWIFT network for RMB-denominated payments, connecting financial institutions globally for real-time and batch settlement.

Standard Bank Group, through Standard Bank South Africa (SBSA) as its clearing hub, launched its CIPS capability in November 2025 and is progressively extending the service across Africa. Ghana is one of six African markets selected for rollout, reflecting the country’s growing strategic importance in trade with China.

With CIPS now live in Ghana, individuals making remittances, tuition fee and medical payments, amongst others, as well as businesses trading with China, can settle eligible RMB transactions directly from their Ghana Cedi accounts through Stanbic Bank, alongside existing payment channels.

Commenting on the introduction of CIPS, Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Ghana, Kwamina Asomaning, said, “Guided by our purpose, Ghana is our home, we drive her growth, we continue to build new bridges of opportunity for Ghana and our continent. This is a landmark moment for Stanbic Bank Ghana and for the Ghana–China trade relationship. As the first bank in Ghana to offer direct access to CIPS, we are doing more than introducing a new payment capability, we are making cross-border trade simpler, faster and more efficient for our clients.

China is one of Ghana’s most important trading partners, and we are committed to providing the financial infrastructure that enables businesses to trade with greater confidence and ease. Through Standard Bank Group’s strategic relationship with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), we continue to unlock international opportunities for our clients while reinforcing Stanbic Bank’s position as the partner of choice for businesses engaged in global trade.”

Businesses trading with China have traditionally faced challenges including foreign exchange liquidity constraints, multiple intermediary banks and, in some cases, the risks associated with carrying physical cash to settle trade transactions. CIPS provides a direct bank-to-bank settlement route in Chinese Yuan, helping to address these challenges while allowing clients to continue banking through their existing Stanbic Bank relationship teams, branches and digital channels.

Mr. Asomaning added, “Our clients have consistently asked for simpler, faster and more reliable ways to pay their Chinese suppliers. CIPS delivers exactly that. It provides a direct and efficient alternative for RMB payments without requiring clients to change how they bank with us. It is another example of our commitment to delivering innovative solutions that help our clients grow their businesses across borders.”

Kwamina Asomaning, Chief Executive, Stanbic Bank Ghana LTD
