The Western Regional Police Command has intercepted two trucks carrying a total of 152 bales of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs and arrested three suspects in a multi-stage operation.
The seizure began on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at approximately 5:20 pm, when officers stationed at the Assorkor barrier near Shama stopped a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GE 8965-12. Although the occupants initially fled the scene, 44-year-old Moses Kwaku Tawiah later appeared and attempted to secure the vehicle’s release by claiming it belonged to his brother.
Following his arrest and subsequent interrogation, Tawiah led police to a second vehicle, a Hyundai Gold truck with registration number GS 3368-17, parked at a block factory in Nkroful near Sekondi. A detailed search of the two vehicles revealed that each of the 152 bales contained approximately 80 slabs of the compressed substance.
The investigation took a further turn in the early hours of February 23, 2026, when two additional suspects, Isaac Kwame Kontor, 44, and Kwabena Forson, 55, arrived at the Assorkor barrier with GH₵ 69,000.00 in cash. The duo allegedly attempted to bribe the police officers to release the impounded trucks and the illicit cargo.
The police retrieved the money as evidence and immediately took both men into custody. Currently, all three suspects are being held to assist with ongoing investigations, while the two trucks and the cash have been retained for evidential purposes. The Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to dismantling drug trafficking networks and ensuring that all related offenses are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
