Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang departed Accra today for Conakry to represent Ghana at the investiture ceremony of Guinea’s President-elect, Mamadi Doumbouya. The high-profile event, held at the Stade Général Lansana Conté, marks a significant milestone in Guinea’s transition to democratic governance following a period of military rule. Her attendance is intended to underscore Ghana’s commitment to regional cooperation and solidarity within West Africa while deepening the bilateral relations between the two nations.

The diplomatic mission carries historical weight, drawing on the deep-rooted ties established during the post-independence era by Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and Guinea’s Ahmed Sékou Touré. Following his overthrow in 1966, Dr. Nkrumah served as Co-President of Guinea, a gesture of Pan-African unity that remains a cornerstone of the relationship between Accra and Conakry. Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s presence signifies a renewal of these bonds at a pivotal moment for the sub-region.

The Vice President is accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Chief of Staff at her office, Alex Segbefia, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Also joining the mission is the Vice President’s Spokesperson, Ama Pratt, alongside other government officials. The ceremony is expected to host a diverse gathering of world leaders and international dignitaries as Guinea formally installs its new leadership.
