Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang officially launched the Students Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (SEED) Programme at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) today, marking a significant step in the government’s strategy to foster self-reliance among the youth. The flagship initiative is designed to provide university students with the necessary tools, mentorship, and resources to nurture innovative ideas into sustainable business ventures.

Building upon the foundations of the existing Adwumawura Programme, SEED represents a key pillar of President John Dramani Mahama’s broader agenda to systematically address youth unemployment by shifting the focus toward entrepreneurship and job creation.

The programme is being implemented by the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) under the leadership of Mr. Eric Adjei, in a strategic partnership with the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS). This collaborative effort underscores the government’s commitment to placing enterprise at the heart of national youth development, ensuring that students are not merely job seekers upon graduation but are prepared to become job creators. By integrating the expertise of NEIP with the reach of NUGS, the initiative aims to create a robust support system for young visionaries across the country’s tertiary institutions.

During the launch ceremony, the Vice President expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Education, the Ministry for Youth Development and Empowerment, and the leadership of NEIP for their dedication to bringing the project to fruition. Professor Opoku-Agyemang also extended her congratulations to the first cohort of student participants, emphasizing the importance of their role in the nation’s economic future.

She urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the training and opportunities provided by the SEED Programme, noting that their success as entrepreneurs is essential to building a resilient and prosperous national economy.
