The Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Agyeman, convened a high-level meeting with the leadership of Jacob’s Foundation to review progress on foundational education initiatives in Ghana.
The meeting, attended by the foundation’s board and management as well as the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abasinaab Apaak, focused on strengthening the “System Change Architecture for Learning Excellence” (SCALE) programme. Launched in mid-2025 in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Global Partnership for Education, the $80 million multi-stakeholder initiative is designed to reach two million children and implement differentiated learning across 15,000 schools nationwide.
During the discussions, Veep Professor Opoku-Agyeman emphasized that foundational learning remains a critical pillar of national development, noting that educational quality must be matched with relevance to prepare the youth for future leadership. She highlighted the importance of the SCALE programme in expanding the impact of the Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP), particularly through extensive teacher training.
The Vice President also called for regular reviews of such initiatives to ensure that government decisions are well-informed and aligned with long-term national goals.
Addressing the nature of international cooperation, Professor Agyeman underscored the necessity of properly structured partnerships within a long-term planning framework to ensure they remain sustainable and mutually beneficial. She stressed that every Ghanaian child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, which requires a clearly defined education sector where investments produce results that match public expectations.
The Vice President concluded by urging stakeholders to remain deeply engaged with classroom activities and the performance of those facilitating the learning process to ensure a meaningful impact on students.
