Chicago, IL — November 7, 2025
The bedrock of accessible healthcare for the Ghanaian community in Chicago has been momentarily shaken.
In a sudden and concise communication late Thursday, November 5, 2025, Dr. Prince Hodogbey, Medical Director of the Ghanaian Community Health Clinic (GCHC), announced the cancellation of the scheduled clinic for Saturday, November 8, citing only “unforeseen circumstances.”
The Ghana National Council is the parent organization and owner of the clinic.
A Disruption That Raises Questions
The timing of this cancellation ,just 2 days before the clinic was set to open, has sent ripples of concern through the community. For many, the GCHC is not just a medical service but a trusted lifeline, offering culturally sensitive care often free of charge. The abrupt nature of this decision raises critical questions about the clinic’s operational stability and future direction.
Official Announcement Reproduced:
Good evening,
Due to unforeseen circumstances, there will be no Clinic on Saturday November 8, 2025.
We will communicate with you about the December Clinic at least one week before the clinic day.
Thanks and a pleasant weekend to all.
By: Dr. Prince Hodogbey, Medical Director

The Lingering Question: What Caused the Cancellation?
Despite efforts to obtain clarity, Sankofaonline.com has been unable to confirm the specific reasons behind the cancellation. In the absence of specifics , speculation is rising, pointing toward possible organizational turbulence or leadership transitions.
Volunteer Concerns
Of particular concern are reports surrounding Dr. Eunice Cromwell, Clinical Operations Director of the GCHC. In her concession speech following the recent Ghana National Council elections, Dr. Cromwell reaffirmed her commitment to continue volunteering her invaluable services.
However, sources close to her suggest that ongoing and relentless personal attacks, targeting her in the wake and aftermath of the elections, may be affecting her ability or willingness to serve. If true, this loss of key operational leadership could certainly qualify as an “unforeseen circumstance,” especially if her safety or peace of mind is compromised.
Structural Shifts?
We are also investigating whether the cancellation signals a deeper reorganization within the clinic’s structure. Any significant administrative or procedural upheaval could necessitate a temporary halt in services. The lack of detail from clinic leadership only amplifies the community’s need for transparency.
Over the years, members of the Ghanaian community have generously supported the clinic’s mission, fueling its growth with heartfelt contributions. Among the most notable is a recent pledge of $30,000, delivered in three annual installments, a testament to the deep trust and enduring commitment this institution inspires.
A Call to Action for the Community
The Ghanaian Community Health Clinic is more than a place for check-ups, it is a cultural and physical lifeline. Its intermittent operation is a serious matter that affects the health and dignity of our community.
Sankofaonline.com urges every member of the Ghanaian community in Chicago to heed this cancellation notice. Please inform friends, family, and neighbors who may have planned to attend.
We remain committed to monitoring this situation closely. When the clinic reopens, we strongly encourage a robust turnout and renewed support. The strength of our community lies in its unwavering support for institutions that serve us.

Editorial Insight from Sankofaonline
As stewards of communal transparency and cultural dignity, we at Sankofaonline feel compelled to address a growing concern. In the aftermath of the recent elections, we have observed continued personal attacks directed at Dr. Eunice Cromwell, the Director of Operations of the clinic. These attacks, whether verbal, digital, or social, are deeply troubling and run counter to the spirit of unity and service that this clinic and our community was built upon.
At this time, we cannot confirm whether these tensions influenced the decision to cancel the November clinic, nor whether a broader restructuring of the clinic’s leadership or operational model is underway.
We urge our community to reflect deeply:
- Let us not allow political residue to cloud our collective health priorities or social fabric. The election is over!
- Let us protect those who serve us with dignity and respect.
- Let us recommit to dialogue, not division.
This clinic has long stood as a beacon of care, compassion, and cultural pride. If it is undergoing change, let that change be guided by transparency, not turmoil.

Menua Johnny, before or after that health clinic, Ghanaians existed. This is not news but unnecessary. If you need free health checkups, Spectrum has been doing this silently for years. Stop by the office for free consult. Why do our people want to hold others hostage? Be a great patriot. Don’t be sore. We lose all the time in our lives. If you truly want to help people, you help. Don’t be a crybaby.
Response :
Can he write a prescription or diagnose anything? So this statement that he made shows
he is *VERY* jealous of the health clinic and ignorant about the services provided by the clinic .
Im on his platform but I don’t like the unnecessary disparaging comments he has bed. Outing on there . Who does he think he is ? What has he done for the Ghanaian community? Doesn’t he host paid for his services? He is a bitter oldman who doesn’t respect anyone . Not even a member of any organization in the community.
In any case what has his two daughters done for this community. This is the guy the GNC president-elect went to celebrate with. What has he done for the community? Nothing .
I thought i am alone . I feel like leaving the platform. Of all people he is attacking Eunice ? She fills my prescriptions for me day and night for free . She made sure I got my medications too for free . How could an elder be speaking like someone who hates a lady his children’s age ?
