Accra, Ghana – The partnership between the United States and Ghana’s health sector is set for a potential expansion following the presentation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to the Ministry of Health (MoH). A delegation from the U.S. Embassy in Ghana, headed by Chargé d’Affaires, Mr. Rolf Olson, formally handed over the document, which outlines intentions to strengthen collaborative health initiatives.

Review and Alignment with National Priorities

Receiving the MoU, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh assured the U.S. delegation that the Ministry would undertake a thorough review of the document. The Minister emphasized the critical need to ensure that the terms of the agreement fully align with the government’s priority areas for the health sector. These priorities typically include infectious disease control, maternal and child health, primary healthcare strengthening, and health system resilience.

Next Steps in Advancing Mutual Objectives

Minister Akandoh indicated that following the internal review, further discussions will be scheduled between the MoH and the U.S. Embassy to chart a clear path forward. These meetings will be crucial in determining the next steps required to effectively advance the mutual health objectives shared by both nations. The anticipated partnership aims to leverage U.S. expertise and resources to support Ghana’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes.
