
President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning, starting Thursday, August 7, 2025, in honor of the eight individuals who lost their lives in a tragic military helicopter crash on Wednesday. The President also announced the suspension of all his scheduled activities and public engagements for the remainder of the week.
The Office of the Chief of Staff has directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast across the country until further notice. The helicopter crash, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others.
The nation remains in shock, with tributes pouring in from political leaders, civil society, religious groups, and international organizations. The incident has been described as one of the darkest moments in recent history, and Ghanaians are coming together to mourn the loss of the eight individuals.
