The 2026 Easter holiday season in Keta was marked by a profound act of inclusion and compassion, led by the distinguished philanthropist and Registered Nurse and Midwife, Dame Doris Adadevoh Ablo. Through her latest initiative, “The Keta Project,” in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Accra East, personally oversaw the donation of high-quality wheelchairs to persons living with disabilities across the Keta community.

For many recipients, this was more than a donation—it was a restoration of independence. By providing the gift of mobility, Dame Doris ensured that the most vulnerable members of society could navigate their surroundings with dignity, reinforcing her reputation as a leader who prioritizes the tangible needs of her people.

A Life Built on Service and Tradition

This recent act of kindness is a single chapter in the storied life of a woman who has become a pillar of the Volta Region. Known traditionally as Mama Michaela I, she serves as the Development Queen for the Saint Michael Roman Catholic Co-cathedral Church. Her leadership was formally recognized by the Anlo Traditional Council in early 2024, bridging the gap between traditional governance and modern humanitarianism.

Her contributions have resonated far beyond the borders of Ghana:

  • A Papal Recognition: In June 2024, her decades of devotion were honored by Pope Francis, who conferred upon her the title of Dame of St. Gregory the Great. This prestigious award highlights her exceptional service to the Catholic Church and humanity within the Keta-Akatsi Diocese.
  • Educational Legacy: Dame Doris remains a fierce advocate for the youth. To mark her 80th birthday in 2023, she funded and constructed a modern, one-story Library and ICT Centre for the Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) Convent Basic School, ensuring the children of Keta have access to 21st-century learning tools.

From Midwifery to Community Transformation

The discipline and empathy driving “The Keta Project” were forged during her long and successful career as a professional State Registered Nurse and Midwife and entrepreneur. This background in healthcare gave her a deep understanding of the physical and social challenges facing her community, particularly those with limited mobility.

Whether she is donating altars and lecterns to the St. Michael Cathedral or mentoring young people on making wise life choices, Dame Doris Adadevoh Ablo continues to build on a family legacy of service. Through her ongoing work, she proves that the true measure of leadership is found in the lives one chooses to uplift.
