Accra, February 11, 2026 — A major dispute has erupted at the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) after the Chairman of the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU–GCTU), Mr. Eric Wedzi, issued a strong disclaimer repudiating a letter circulating in the name of a so‑called “Federation of Staff Unions at GCTU.”

In a formal communication addressed to the Minister of Education, Mr. Wedzi—who also serves as Assistant Internal Auditor and the officially recognized TEWU Representative on the GCTU Council—described the document as unauthorized, fraudulent, and deliberately misleading.

According to him, the letter dated February 11, 2026, was signed by individuals falsely claiming to represent TEWU and other unions. He stated emphatically that:

  • He was never invited to any emergency meeting allegedly held on February 10.
  • He did not attend or authorize any such meeting.
  • He did not mandate anyone to sign a letter on behalf of TEWU–GCTU.
  • The contents do not reflect his views nor the position of TEWU–GCTU members.

Mr. Wedzi challenged the authors of the disputed letter to produce basic evidence of legitimacy, including an official meeting notice, minutes, attendance list, and proof of voting. Without these, he said, the document is “baseless and misleading.”

Accusation of Misrepresentation and Possible Fraud

The TEWU–GCTU Chairman raised an even more serious concern: the letter’s use of the name “TEWU‑GH,” which he described as a deliberate attempt to create false national legitimacy.

He warned that such misrepresentation amounts to institutional impersonation and potential fraud, calling for immediate intervention from:

  • The Minister of Education
  • Ghana Police Service
  • Criminal Investigations Department
  • Labour regulatory bodies

“This is not a minor internal disagreement,” he stressed. “It is a serious act of misrepresentation and possible fraud that must not be allowed to stand.”

Public Asked to Disregard the Letter

Mr. Wedzi urged the Minister, stakeholders, and the general public to completely disregard the disputed document, describing it as null, void, and of no representational value.

“For the avoidance of doubt,” he wrote, “I remain the duly recognized Chairman of TEWU at GCTU. I am unaware of the content of the said letter. I did not authorize it. I do not support it. This is NOT from us.”

The letter was copied to major national authorities, including the IGP, CID, GTEC, NLC, Vice-Chancellors Ghana, the GCTU Council, and all major staff unions, signaling the seriousness of the matter.
