A new memorial statue honoring the late former President of Ghana, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, was officially unveiled today, Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in Keta.
The monument stands prominently opposite the Keta Senior High School and serves as a permanent tribute to the legacy of the founding leader of the Fourth Republic.
The dedication ceremony drew a significant gathering of traditional authorities, political leaders, and members of the public. Among the prominent dignitaries in attendance were the Awoamefia of Anlo Dukor, Togbi Sri III; the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia; and the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu.
Representing the family of the late statesman were his children, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and Kimathi Rawlings, alongside the Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey.
Constructed by Mr. Mawuko Dzikunu and Mr. Clifford Selasi Kekeshie, the statue was commissioned to celebrate the late president’s reputation as a principled leader who championed the cause of the voiceless.
Speakers at the event highlighted his role in establishing the nation’s democratic foundations and his lifelong commitment to the values of justice and accountability. The unveiling serves as a milestone in preserving the history of one of Ghana’s most influential political figures in his ancestral region.
