In a scandal that has stunned the nation, $31 billion has been siphoned out of Ghana through clandestine banking channels, shaking the very pillars of trust in our financial institutions. This is not just a breach of fiduciary duty, it is an assault on the collective wealth of the people.
Authorities have spoken with clarity and conviction: any bank implicated in this monumental theft will be shut down, and those responsible will face prosecution. Sankofaonline wholeheartedly agrees. Closure and prosecution are not merely punitive, they are essential acts of justice and accountability.
Historical Precedents of Financial Reckoning
- Barings Bank Collapse (1995): Britain’s oldest merchant bank crumbled after rogue trading exposed systemic failures.
- Enron Scandal (2001): Executives faced criminal charges in one of history’s largest corporate frauds, proving that financial misconduct demands justice.
- Lehman Brothers (2008): Its collapse during the global financial crisis demonstrated how unchecked practices can devastate economies, forcing regulatory reform.
These cases remind us of a universal truth: when banks betray public trust, closure and prosecution are not optional, they are inevitable.
The closures will reverberate across the financial system, but they are necessary tremors that clear the ground for rebuilding trust. Citizens demand transparency, accountability, and reform. The prosecution of culpable officers will serve as a deterrent, ensuring that future custodians of public wealth understand the sacred responsibility they bear.
Sankofaonline will continue to follow this story as it unfolds, holding institutions and individuals accountable, and amplifying the voice of the people who demand justice.

It’s utterly disgusting to hear of such story lines! 31 billions, not millions siphoned out of our banking system!
It’s so sickening, snd disgusting to hear that elected politicians could do that!
What were they thinking, that, Ghana is their personal property! Shame unto them! They deserve to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law ! If found guilt, they should be locked up and the keys thrown away, so they can rot in jail!
What is wrong with our politicians! Their memory is so myopic of the past that it’s so embarrassing, disgusting and unbelievable to comprehend!
Let justice prevail now and into the future! No mercy unto politicians whose sole aim is to use politics to enrich themselves!
