The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced new tariff adjustments for both electricity and water, which will take effect on January 1, 2026. Following its comprehensive multi-year tariff review process covering the period from 2026 to 2030, the Commission approved a 9.86 percent increase in electricity tariffs across all customer categories.
Simultaneously, water tariffs will see a 15.92 percent increase. The PURC stated that these adjustments are essential to meet the investment requirements of utility providers, maintain industry competitiveness, and ultimately safeguard consumer interests.
The regulatory framework now incorporates quarterly adjustments designed to account for external, uncontrollable factors such as exchange rate fluctuations, inflation, fuel costs, and the generation mix. Furthermore, the review introduced new mini-grid tariffs to support electricity access in island communities, with the costs being absorbed into the Volta River Authority’s revenue requirements.
The PURC emphasized that its decision was finalized after extensive stakeholder consultations, public hearings, and careful evaluation of utility proposals, and pledged to continue strict monitoring of service providers to ensure efficiency and value for money.
