President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to lead a series of high-stakes diplomatic engagements at the 39th Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

The President’s itinerary signals a robust push for African self-reliance, centered on the official launch of the “Addis Reckoning”—a pivotal phase of his Accra Reset Initiative designed to reduce the continent’s dependence on external aid and strengthen sovereign capacity.

As the AU Champion for Gender and Development, President Mahama began his mission on Friday by hosting a high-level dialogue aimed at bridging the financing gap for the Women and Youth Financial and Economic Inclusion (WYFEI 2030) initiative.

His leadership also extends to the continent’s quest for historical justice, as he advocates for the operationalization of the AU Decade of Reparations (2026–2036), a movement seeking restitution for the enduring impacts of colonialism and the transatlantic slave trade.
