ACCRA – President John Dramani Mahama visited the 37 Military Hospital on Monday afternoon to extend his support to two Ghanaian survivors currently recovering from a deadly terrorist ambush in northern Burkina Faso. The survivors were part of a group of tomato traders traveling via truck when they were intercepted and attacked by armed bandits last Saturday.

Accompanied by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, the President offered words of comfort to the victims and their families. During the visit, President Mahama announced that the government would fully absorb the medical bills and treatment costs for the survivors, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their recovery process.

The President’s visit highlights the gravity of the security situation facing cross-border traders. Earlier in the day, the President had been in Takoradi to open the Minerals Commission’s Local Content Summit. Demonstrating the priority placed on the welfare of the citizens, he traveled directly from the airport to the hospital wards upon his return to the capital.

The incident has left a somber mark on the trading community, as seven other Ghanaian traders lost their lives during the same assault. Those victims have since been laid to rest. The two survivors were successfully evacuated and transported back to Ghana through a coordinated effort by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), who continue to monitor the security corridors used by Ghanaian merchants in the sub-region.
