The President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to significantly bolstering the operational capacity of the Ghana Immigration Service to ensure more robust border security. Speaking at the Jubilee House during a courtesy call from the newly constituted Governing Council of the Service, the President detailed a comprehensive support package including the provision of vehicles, motorbikes, and advanced surveillance drones.

Beyond physical equipment, the President emphasized that his government remains dedicated to improving the welfare of officers to better position the Service to meet its mandate.

The Governing Council, led by its Chairman, Rev. Stephen Wengam, used the opportunity to brief the President on Project SECOBOR. This upcoming self-help initiative is strategically designed to mobilize public-private partnerships to supplement the resource needs of the Service, signaling a proactive approach to institutional development.

In recognition of the President’s dedication to modernizing the organization into a global model, Rev. Wengam presented him with an Award for Visionary Leadership alongside a ceremonial fugu tailored in the official colors of the Ghana Immigration Service. Rev. Wengam expressed his firm confidence that this collaborative effort between the Council and the executive branch would result in a stronger and more effective national security apparatus.
