President John Dramani Mahama has officially presented 100 pickup trucks to the Ghana Police Service as part of a strategic effort to enhance law enforcement capabilities and ensure public safety across the nation. Speaking at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, January 8, the President characterized the delivery as the first installment of a larger allocation of vehicles designed to address critical operational needs. He emphasized that these assets are intended to function as essential tools for active duty rather than for ceremonial use, aiming to decrease emergency response times and improve police visibility in both urban and remote areas.
During the presentation, President Mahama noted that the new fleet would allow officers to extend their reach into underserved communities and operate with greater safety. He explained that the provision of these vehicles is a practical step toward getting police personnel to where they are needed faster and more efficiently. The initiative is part of a broader national strategy to strengthen the country’s security infrastructure and provide the necessary logistics for effective modern policing.
Accepting the vehicles on behalf of the Service, the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, expressed deep gratitude for the government’s support. The IGP assured the President that the police administration would remain committed to protecting the new assets and deploying them strategically to maintain national stability. He further noted that the Ghana Police Service is dedicated to its role in the “national reset,” maintaining firm conduct in law enforcement while defending the nation’s peace and security.
