President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a major accommodation regeneration project and presented a new fleet of vehicles to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) during the 2025 West African Social Activities (WASSA) held at Burma Camp. Accompanied by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, and the Finance and Acting Defence Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the President underscored the government’s dedication to enhancing the welfare and operational readiness of military personnel.
The newly commissioned housing initiative is part of a comprehensive barracks regeneration strategy designed to replace aging, low-rise structures with modern high-rise residential buildings. This move aims to optimize land use within the military headquarters while providing superior living conditions for service members and their families. Alongside the infrastructure developments, the delivery of the new vehicle fleet is expected to significantly bolster the mobility and overall capacity of the troops.
During his address to the gathered officers and dignitaries, President Mahama praised the leadership of the GAF for their steadfast dedication and commended the organizers of the WASSA event for promoting morale and camaraderie within the ranks. He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the continuous retooling of the armed forces. The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General William Agyapong, as well as senior representatives from various security agencies.
