President John Dramani Mahama has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art Steel Ball Mill and Section Mill Manufacturing Plant by the B5 Plus Group, hailing the investment as a transformative milestone for Ghana’s industrial sector.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Friday, February 20, the President described the facility as a critical component of the national 24-Hour Economy agenda and a bold move toward industrial self-reliance.

The new plant significantly expands Ghana’s manufacturing capabilities, allowing for the domestic production of structural steel sections, grinding media balls for the mining industry, and pre-engineered building systems. Additionally, the facility is equipped to manufacture heavy industrial structures such as tankers, trailers, and factory warehouses, reducing the nation’s dependence on specialized imported steel products.

During his keynote address, President Mahama emphasized that achieving industrial sovereignty is essential for Ghana’s long-term economic stability. He noted that steel consumption serves as a primary indicator of a nation’s development, with per capita usage typically rising alongside urbanization and infrastructure expansion.

The President pointed out that reducing steel imports by even 20 to 30 percent annually could save the country hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign exchange. By strengthening domestic production through such high-capacity plants, the government aims to retain more value within the local economy while providing the necessary materials for large-scale construction and mining operations.

President Mahama concluded by reaffirming his administration’s support for private-sector investments that align with the goal of building a resilient, industrialized Ghana.
