President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to lead the first Davos convening of the Accra Reset on January 22, 2026, held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting. As the head of the initiative’s Presidential Council, President Mahama will join other African and Global South leaders, including President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, President William Ruto of Kenya, and President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo, to discuss strategies for strengthening sovereign capacity and reimagining international cooperation.
The high-level meeting will also see participation from Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima and Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister James Marape, alongside a “Guardians Circle” of former heads of state such as Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and Olusegun Obasanjo.
The meeting serves as the official launch for priority programs following the initiative’s endorsement at the 2025 UN General Assembly and the G20 Summit in Johannesburg. Designed to address the collapse of traditional global aid narratives and the rise of climate and trade crises, the Accra Reset is viewed by President Mahama as a vital international counterpart to his domestic “Resetting Ghana” agenda.
Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu noted that the President remains committed to building strategic partnerships across the Global South, emphasizing that true sovereignty involves the capacity to execute national visions through equitable international systems that advance mutual interests.
