President John Dramani Mahama has been officially decorated as the Grand Patron of the West African College of Surgeons (WACS), a prestigious distinction marking his lifelong commitment to healthcare delivery and the modernization of surgical services across the sub-region.
The investiture took place during the opening ceremony of the 66th Annual Conference of the College, where the leadership of WACS lauded the President for his role in expanding medical infrastructure and fostering an environment conducive to professional medical development.
Addressing a distinguished assembly of surgeons, medical researchers, and health policy experts, President Mahama underscored the transformative potential of technology in the medical field. He argued that the integration of digital tools is no longer a luxury but a necessity for strengthening medical education and refining clinical decision-making.
By leveraging technology, the President noted, the healthcare sector can bridge the gap in specialist care through enhanced mentorship programs and more rigorous quality assurance protocols, ultimately ensuring safer outcomes for patients across the West African corridor.
Beyond the technical aspects of the profession, the President highlighted the 66th Annual Conference as a vital nexus for regional and international diplomacy. He described the gathering as a strategic platform for professional networking, urging Fellows to utilize these connections to bolster the region’s research capacity and mobilize the financial resources needed for large-scale medical interventions.
President Mahama concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the ultimate goal of such collaborations must be the translation of medical evidence into improved clinical practice. By fostering sustainable partnerships and accelerating the adoption of innovation, he noted that West Africa could significantly enhance its collective health security and provide world-class surgical care to its citizens.
The event reinforces the President’s ongoing engagement with the scientific community to drive development through specialized expertise.
