President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of a new float glass manufacturing facility in Shama, located in the Western Region, describing the project as a pivotal move in Ghana’s industrial transformation agenda.
Organized by KEDA (Ghana) Ceramics Company Limited, the ceremony also saw the President commission a modern sanitary wares factory and inaugurate the fifth phase of the company’s tile production line. Once fully operational, the New Float Glass Manufacturing Company is expected to produce 1,400 tons of glass daily, a capacity that will rank it among the largest facilities of its kind on the African continent.
The expansion is projected to significantly bolster the national economy by reducing reliance on imports and generating approximately $100 million in annual export revenue. Beyond the financial impact, the project is designed to strengthen local supply chains and create sustainable employment opportunities while increasing tax contributions to the state.
During the event, President Mahama urged both management and staff to take personal ownership of the facility’s success, noting that national industrialization thrives when government stability, investor capital, and community partnerships align. He concluded by reaffirming his confidence in the global competitiveness of “Made-in-Ghana” products, provided they are backed by innovation, technical skill, and high-quality standards.
