As delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepare to converge on Saturday, January 31, 2026, the contest to elect a presidential flagbearer has evolved into a high-stakes showdown between statistical projections and spiritual declarations. While five candidates remain in the race, the national spotlight has narrowed significantly on former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Dr. Bawumia, the party’s 2024 candidate, is campaigning on a platform of institutional continuity and broad national appeal, while Mr. Agyapong has positioned himself as a blunt, grassroots-driven alternative for those seeking a change in leadership style. The lead-up to the vote has been dominated by a stark contrast in outcome predictions from data analysts and religious figures.

Global InfoAnalytics, led by Mussa Dankwah, has released a final pre-primary assessment projecting a decisive victory for Dr. Bawumia with 57 percent of the delegate vote, compared to 28 percent for Mr. Agyapong.

The firm’s data suggests Bawumia maintains a commanding lead in 14 of the 16 regions, bolstered by strong favorability ratings in the Ashanti Region. This analytical sentiment is echoed by separate polls from Africa Policy Lens and Governance Lab Africa, both of which anticipate a first-round win for the former Vice President based on historical voting patterns and delegate sampling.

In sharp contrast to the empirical data, the spiritual community has offered a different verdict that has energized the Agyapong camp. Prophet Bernard ElBernard Nelson-Eshun, a prominent figure known for his political prognostications, has publicly declared that Kennedy Agyapong will defy the polls to emerge victorious in Saturday’s primary and eventually secure the presidency in 2028.

This clash between data-driven “numbers” and prophetic “divination” has created an atmosphere of intense anticipation, leaving delegates to decide whether the party’s future will follow the path of statistical probability or spiritual intervention.
