The Ashanti South Regional Police Command intercepted a significant cache of prohibited drugs and arrested five individuals following a failed bribery attempt at the Tweapease Police barrier on the Obuasi-Dunkwa highway.
On February 13, 2026, officers searching a red OA Kia Grandbird bus en route to Ayamfuri discovered two sealed brown boxes containing 257 packs of 50mg tramadol, 58 packs of 225mg tapendol, and 58 packs of 250mg tramadol.
The bus driver, 37-year-old Joseph Nkrumah, was arrested at the scene and identified a woman named Perpetual as the owner of the illegal shipment.
The investigation took a dramatic turn on February 14, 2026, when Perpetual and three accomplices—Diana Mensah, 40, Abena Neyea, 43, and Nana Aka, 35—arrived at the Tweapease barrier and offered GH₵50,000.00 to the police to secure the release of the drugs.
Officers seized the cash as evidence and immediately took all four suspects into custody. The Ashanti South Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, confirmed that all five suspects are scheduled to appear in court today, Monday, February 16, 2026. Commander Nyaaba warned that the regional police remain committed to making the jurisdiction hostile for anyone engaged in criminal trade.
