The Accra Regional Police Command, in a joint operation with the Eastern Regional Police Command, has apprehended seven members of a violent highway robbery syndicate linked to a series of attacks across the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti Regions.
The arrests followed an intensive intelligence-led investigation sparked by a November 29, 2025, residential robbery in Peduase, Aburi, where the gang reportedly made off with jewelry, mobile phones, and cash.
The breakthrough occurred on January 6, 2026, when 30-year-old Kofi Ishmael was arrested at Avenor, Accra. During interrogation, Ishmael confessed to the crime and identified the group’s ringleader as Kwame Bediako, also known as “Star Boy.” Subsequent police action led to the arrest of Bediako at Ablekuma Agape, where officers discovered a pump-action gun and ammunition concealed within a fence wall. Following these initial arrests, five additional suspects—Salia Mohammed, Kwadwo Kalovi, Mumuni Abdul Razak, Kwasi Akambuley, and Kwame Bonsu—were taken into custody.
According to police investigations, the syndicate specialized in targeting motorists and trailer drivers on major transit routes, including the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, and the Juaso-Kumasi stretch. Authorities revealed that the suspects were in the final stages of planning another robbery at the time of their capture. Several members of the group are also reported to have previously jumped bail in other pending criminal cases, including a fatal robbery that resulted in the death of a driver.
Items retrieved during the operation include firearms, machetes, knives, and various electronic devices suspected to be stolen property. While seven suspects are currently in detention, one is receiving medical attention under police guard. The Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to curbing criminal activity and continues to search for the remaining accomplices who are currently at large.
