The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a key suspect linked to a high-profile daylight armed robbery at a jewellery shop in Adabraka, Accra, which resulted in the theft of GH₵7.5 million. The suspect, identified as Salim Mohammed, also known as Fariwata, was arrested on November 20, 2025, at a hospital in Ashaiman while seeking medical treatment. The arrest follows more than a year of sustained intelligence-led operations conducted by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector General of Police.
The robbery took place on November 2, 2024, targeting proceeds from a gold transaction that were being transported to a bank. Preliminary police investigations established that Mohammed and several accomplices, armed with AK-47 assault rifles, intercepted the victim’s vehicle and opened fire to disperse bystanders. During the violent exchange, the driver of the vehicle sustained injuries before the suspects fled the scene with the cash.
Currently, the suspect remains in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations. Authorities have intensified efforts to locate and arrest the remaining accomplices and recover the stolen funds. The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to provide any credible information that could lead to the capture of the other individuals involved as the case continues to develop.
