The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has apprehended a suspect in connection with a violent robbery and murder that occurred in a suburb of Obuasi. The suspect, identified as Rahman Adams, also known as Wale, was arrested on January 18, 2026, at Pomposo during a targeted intelligence-led operation. This arrest follows a residential attack on December 12, 2025, at the Asonkore SSNIT Flats Down area, which resulted in the death of a 42-year-old miner.

According to preliminary police investigations, the assailants gained entry to the victim’s home by cutting through a burglar-proof window. During the robbery, the attackers seized GH¢2,600.00 in cash, a laptop, and a vehicle ignition key, while physically assaulting the deceased. Police officers who arrived at the scene found the body of the miner inside the house, and forensic teams retrieved various tools used in the break-in, including hammers, machetes, and cutters. The body was subsequently deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.
Law enforcement officials believe that at least two other accomplices, including a Nigerian national and an individual identified only as A.T., were involved in the crime and remain at large. Rahman Adams is currently in police custody assisting with further inquiries as the regional command intensifies its search for the remaining suspects. The police have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring all individuals linked to the robbery and murder are brought to face justice.
