
The Ghana Police Service has arrested 39‑year‑old Michael Mensah in connection with the murder of Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, the University of Cape Coast student whose death shocked the nation and devastated the UCC community.
Police sources confirm that the suspect was picked up on 15th June 2026 at about 7:15 p.m. at the Pedu Lorry Station in Cape Coast. The arrest was carried out by the IGP’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team after days of sustained, intelligence‑driven operations.
According to preliminary findings, on 11th June 2026 at around 6:48 p.m., the suspect—who identifies himself as a teacher but also works as a driver—allegedly picked up Innocentia from Ayensu Plaza, a busy hostel enclave within the University of Cape Coast. Investigators say he then drove her to Hutchland Beach, the location where she was last seen alive.
Police say investigations are ongoing, with additional updates to be communicated as new information emerges.
