The Committee on Roads and Transportation, led by Chairman Hon. Mensah Adjei, has initiated a formal review of the contract agreement for the construction of the Accra–Kumasi Expressway in collaboration with the Leadership of the Finance Committee.

The proposed high-capacity thoroughfare is designed to drastically reduce travel times and transportation costs between Ghana’s two largest cities, while simultaneously creating numerous employment opportunities.

Officials also noted that the project is expected to become a long-term revenue stream for the state through various monetization strategies once operational.

Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, expressed his strong endorsement of the initiative, highlighting that modern road infrastructure remains a cornerstone of national development. Supporting this position, the Minister for Finance, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, confirmed that the government will provide full funding for the expressway under the “Big Push” Infrastructure Programme.

The project is slated for completion within a three-year timeframe. Hon. Mensah Adjei reaffirmed the committee’s dedication to the project’s success, describing it as a top priority and pledging full legislative support to ensure construction commences on schedule.
