On April 12, 2024, the Ghana National Council gathered, not merely for a meeting, but for a moment. A moment when old hopes stirred again, when dormant drums remembered their rhythm, and when the Chicago Ghanaian community felt the first winds of a cultural revival rising across Chicagoland . Sankofaonline was there, witnessing every heartbeat, every promise, every spark.

A Town Hall Returns — May 10

For the first time in many years, the administration has opened its doors wide, inviting the community to speak, to question, to dream aloud.

May 10 will mark a Town-Hall Meeting where ideas will be exchanged like gifts,
where fundraising meets fellowship,
and where leadership meets accountability.

The venue is forthcoming, but the intention is clear:the community’s voice will no longer echo unanswered.

Republic Day Flag‑Raising — July 1 at Daley Plaza

On July 1, from 1–2 p.m., the Ghanaian flag will rise over Daley Plaza,a red, gold, and green proclamation in the heart of Chicago.
The administration paused to honor those who began this journey:
Mr. Kassim and Dr. Cromwell, whose earlier efforts planted the seed that now bears fruit.Their work, acknowledged with gratitude, becomes part of the ceremony’s legacy.

The flag‑raising will not be routine. It will be a reminder, that no matter how far we travel, our colors still know the way home.

Homowo 2026 — August 15

The GaDangme community announced that Homowo will be celebrated on August 15, 2026.
Homowo is a festival of remembrance, resilience, and the triumph over hunger.

Expect drumming that speaks in proverbs, dancing that remembers the ancestors, and a gathering that binds the community like woven kente.

Community Health: A Call to Wellness

The Council urged all community members to visit the clinic for:

  • Flu shots
  • Routine vaccinations
  • Travel medicine services at accessible, community‑friendly prices
  • All other services are free to the public

Health, they reminded us, is not an afterthought. It is the foundation upon which every festival, every gathering, every celebration stands.
