Kumasi, Ghana – The Methodist Church Ghana has elected a new Presiding Bishop, Very Reverend Professor Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, to succeed Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, whose tenure ends in September 2024. The election took place at the 51st and 13th Biennial Conference of the church at the Wesley Cathedral in Kumasi.
Very Rev Prof Asamoah-Gyadu, President of the Trinity Theological Seminary at Legon, Accra, won with 226 votes (53.33%) out of a total of 424 votes cast. He will assume office on October 1, 2024, as the head of the Methodist Church Ghana.
In his acceptance speech, the Presiding Bishop-elect thanked God and the delegates, promising to serve with all his heart and work together to fulfill God’s will for the next six years.
The Conference, the governing body of the Methodist Church Ghana, meets biennially and has the power to elect a Presiding Bishop through a secret ballot. The Presiding Bishop exercises pastoral and spiritual oversight over the whole Church, serving full-time.
