The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially extended its congratulations to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the successful conduct of its presidential candidate primaries. In a statement issued in Accra on February 1, 2026, and signed by National Chairman Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, the NDC lauded the opposition party for a peaceful process that resulted in the election of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer for the December 2028 presidential election.

The NDC also commended the Ghana Police Service for its professional and efficient handling of security during the internal elections, noting that the remarkable performance of the security forces ensured the entire process remained violence-free. Highlighting the importance of inter-party cooperation, the NDC expressed its support for continued collaboration with the NPP and other political stakeholders to strengthen Ghana’s democratic foundations.
Furthermore, the statement acknowledged the reconciliatory gestures made by the unsuccessful aspirants in the race. While welcoming their concession statements, the NDC leadership expressed hope that these candidates would follow through on their pledges of unity to maintain national stability.
The NDC concluded by reaffirming its commitment to the collective national quest for a deeper and more robust democratic culture in Ghana.
