In a dazzling display of leadership, innovation, and industry impact, Mrs. Mercy Naa Koshie Boampong, Chief Executive Officer of Serene Insurance Company Limited, has clinched the two highest honors in Ghana’s insurance sector—Insurance Personality of the Year 2025 and Insurance Professional of the Year 2024—at two separate marquee events held in August.

The accolades, conferred at the 8th Ghana Insurance Awards (GIA) on August 1 at Labadi Beach Hotel and the 5th Chartered Institute of Insurance Ghana (CIIG) Excellence Awards on August 30 at Kempinski Hotel, mark a historic moment for Serene Insurance and its visionary CEO. Mercy’s dual recognition affirms her unmatched contribution to the transformation of Ghana’s insurance landscape.

Both awards platforms—GIA and CIIG—are revered for spotlighting excellence, innovation, and leadership across the insurance ecosystem. Mercy’s selection was based on her consistent delivery of high-quality work, technical mastery of insurance products and regulations, and her unwavering commitment to detail, precision, and policy execution.

Since assuming leadership of Serene Insurance in September 2022, Mercy has steered the company into a new era of growth and influence. Under her watch, Serene Insurance has expanded its branch network, increased gross written premiums, improved claims settlement, and deepened its agent footprint nationwide. The company was named Best Growing Insurance Company in both 2023 and 2024, and Emerging Brand of the Year at the 8th Ghana Insurance Awards.

Mercy’s impact extends far beyond the boardroom. As a member of the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) Board, she championed the removal of VAT on non-life insurance, resulting in the exclusion of motor insurance from VAT. She also led the Public Relations and External Liaison Committee of the GIA, integrating tertiary institutions into the 2024 GIA Educational Seminar.

Her technical prowess was further demonstrated through her role on the multi-sectoral committee overseeing the implementation of local Marine Cargo Insurance under Section 222 of the Insurance Act, 2021 (Act 1061). She also served on the CIIG Educational Committee, shaping seminar content and facilitating stakeholder education in Takoradi, Cape Coast, Koforidua, and Accra.

Commenting on her recognition, Mercy stated, “This milestone is not just a personal honor—it’s a testament to Serene Insurance’s growing influence in a competitive landscape. It reflects the extraordinary dedication of our staff, the visionary guidance of our Board, and our relentless pursuit of excellence.”

Board Chairman Mr. Charles Edem Gidi hailed the achievement as a signal of Serene Insurance’s enduring commitment to access, inclusivity, and governance. Executive Chairman of First Sky Group, Mr. Eric Kutortse, praised Mercy’s leadership as “unprecedented in the history of new entrants in the insurance ecosystem.”

Founded just seven years ago, Serene Insurance has rapidly earned its place as a trusted provider of reliable, cost-effective insurance solutions. With a strong financial base, inclusive product offerings, and a customer-centric approach, the company continues to live up to its brand promise: The New Face of Insurance.
