President John Mahama, joined by the Vice President, the Speaker of Parliament, and senior government officials, received the families of the eight patriots who perished in the tragic helicopter crash of August 6, 2025. The solemn gathering marked one of the most significant national remembrance ceremonies since the incident, underscoring Ghana’s commitment to honouring those who served the nation with distinction.
The president acknowledged the profound emotional weight carried by the families, noting that no measure of state support can ever replace the leadership, warmth, and love of the departed. Yet, he emphasized that Ghana bears an enduring responsibility to ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten and that their families are never left without support.
In fulfillment of that duty, government presented a comprehensive package designed to secure the long‑term welfare of the dependants. The support includes statutory compensation amounting to GHS 13,872,962.40 for civilian dependants under the Workmen’s Compensation Act, alongside full entitlements for the Ghana Air Force personnel in accordance with Military Regulations.
To safeguard the educational future of the children left behind, nineteen dedicated educational accounts,each valued at GHS 1 million, have been established at Stanbic Bank. Thirteen of these accounts will operate as professionally managed Trust Funds for minors, while six will serve as fixed deposits for adult children.
Healthcare support was also prioritized. Every dependant will receive Premier Nationwide Health Insurance valued at GHS 3 million annually, granting access to nearly one thousand top‑tier healthcare facilities across the country.
In a deeply personal gesture, each child received a Legacy Box containing investment certificates, commemorative medallions, and handwritten letters from the president, assuring them of Ghana’s lasting gratitude and unwavering solidarity.
This national effort was made possible through a combined GHS 8.4 million state contribution and more than GHS 10 million donated by corporate institutions and individual citizens. The president expressed heartfelt appreciation to every Ghanaian who contributed to the cause.
