President John Dramani Mahama has announced that he will co-host a high-level side event at the 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos alongside former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo. Scheduled for Thursday, 22 January 2026, “The Davos Convening” serves as a strategic extension of the Accra Reset Initiative, which President Mahama first introduced at the United Nations General Assembly last year. The event aims to gather global leaders to build implementation partnerships and solidify African-led solutions within the shifting global order.

According to the President, the Accra Reset has gained significant momentum since its launch, evolving into a central rallying point for the Global South to assert leadership in international affairs. By bringing the initiative to the World Economic Forum, president Mahama intends to demonstrate how Africa can move beyond transactional bilateralism to actively shape global solutions. He noted that the gathering will focus on expanding the initiative’s convening power and securing the strategic alliances necessary to transform the agenda into practical, continent-wide outcomes.

The announcement comes as President Mahama continues to advocate for a breakdown of the traditional donor-recipient dynamic. He emphasized that the world is currently at an inflection point, with the Accra Reset charting a specific path forward for a rising Africa. By hosting this event with President Obasanjo, Mahama signaled a unified front among African statesmen to ensure the continent is no longer a passive participant in global governance but a primary architect of its own economic and political future.
