The Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly (LeKMA) has taken a major step toward strengthening local governance with a two‑day capacity‑building workshop held at the Ocean Beach Resort in Prampram on January 29–30, 2026. Organized in partnership with the African Center for Business Incubation (ACBI), the training brought together Assembly Members and senior municipal staff for a focused program aimed at improving leadership, planning, and accountability across the municipality.

Facilitated by Dr. Christian Sewordor Mensah, Executive Director of ACBI, the sessions equipped participants with practical tools in decentralization, participatory planning, community engagement, and performance accountability. Twenty representatives — a blend of elected Assembly Members and key administrative officers — took part in the highly interactive workshop, which featured presentations, group exercises, role‑plays, and case studies.

Opening the program, the Municipal Coordinating Director emphasized that effective representation requires continuous learning. He noted that Assembly Members must combine technical knowledge with practical skills to engage citizens meaningfully and deliver responsive governance. He commended LeKMA’s leadership for prioritizing training as a strategic investment in better service delivery.

Closing the event, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Israel Adjetey Otchwenmah, expressed deep satisfaction with the initiative. “This has been my heart’s desire — to see our Assembly Members build their capacity to enable them contribute effectively to the development of their electoral areas and communities,” he said. “By involving their communities in planning and decision‑making, they will strengthen trust, accountability, and inclusive governance.”

The Presiding Member, Hon. Samuel K. Tawiah of the Tsuibleoo South Electoral Area, whose leadership was instrumental in mobilizing members for the program, described the workshop as a turning point for the Assembly. He praised the commitment shown by participants and expressed confidence that the knowledge gained would translate into more participatory and transparent governance across LeKMA.

Participants were introduced to tools such as participatory budgeting simulations, community scorecards, and stakeholder engagement frameworks — all designed to help them better assess community needs, track performance, and collaborate effectively with citizens. Feedback from attendees highlighted the relevance of the training and the immediate applicability of the skills acquired.

Dr. Mensah reaffirmed ACBI’s commitment to supporting local governance institutions nationwide, stressing that empowering Assembly Members is essential to sustaining Ghana’s decentralization reforms and ensuring that communities play an active role in shaping their development priorities.

The successful completion of the Prampram workshop marks a significant milestone in LeKMA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capacity, promote inclusive governance, and deliver development outcomes that reflect the aspirations of its citizens.
