Keta AstroTurf Project Relocated to Anlo Amidst Preparation Dispute

A state-funded AstroTurf project originally slated for construction on reclaimed land in Keta has been officially moved to the Anlo Constituency following a disagreement over site preparation.

The facility, financed by Exim Bank Ghana, was intended to bolster local sports infrastructure but faced technical challenges regarding the suitability of the soil at the initial location.

Engineers reportedly determined that the sandy terrain of the reclaimed land required a foundational layer of clay before construction could safely proceed. While the Keta Municipal Assembly offered to provide a dredging machine at no cost to assist with land preparation, the project stalled over the provision of the necessary clay.

Sources indicate that the Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, allegedly stated he could not provide the clay required to stabilize the site. This impasse led to the decision to relocate the entire project to the neighboring Anlo Constituency, sparking a wave of disappointment among Keta residents who had anticipated the new facility.

The relocation has raised questions among constituents regarding the circumstances that led to the loss of the project. Local observers and community voices have expressed concern over whether administrative or logistical hurdles are hindering developmental progress within the Keta Municipality.

Despite the availability of the equipment from the Assembly, the inability to secure the primary filling material resulted in the transfer of the Exim Bank investment to a different jurisdiction.
