In every community, especially one as proud and resilient as ours in Chicago , there comes a moment when silence becomes complicity. When the scales of justice tip not from truth, but from tribal and friendship loyalty. When we excuse in our friends what we condemn in our foes. That moment is now.
We must speak plainly: it is unjust to destroy others for missteps while shielding our own when they commit the same, or worse. It is unjust to wield outrage selectively, to weaponize morality only when it suits our faction, our friend, our favorite. And it is unjust to claim the mantle of leadership while refusing the burden of accountability.
This is not merely a matter of optics. It is a matter of integrity. Of legacy. Of whether we are building a community rooted in principle or one fractured by favoritism.
Let us be clear: fairness is not weakness. It is not betrayal. It is the highest form of loyalty to truth, to justice, to the future we claim to be shaping. When we hold everyone to the same standard, we do not tear down our own, we elevate them. We give them the dignity of growth, the honor of accountability, and the chance to lead not by protection, but by example.
We must resist the temptation to circle wagons around wrongdoing simply because it comes from “our side.” That is not unity , it’s bias to the highest level. That is complicity. True unity is forged in truth. It is the courage to say: We will not excuse what is wrong, even when it is close to home.
Our ancestors did not fight for freedom only to see us enslaved by factionalism in a foreign land . They did not build bridges across oceans and generations so we could retreat into camps of convenience. They believed in justice that was blind to tribe, title, or tenure. So must we.
To the leaders who remain silent when their allies err: your silence is not neutrality. It is endorsement. To the voices who cry foul only when it suits them: your credibility is crumbling. And to the community watching all this unfold: you deserve better.
Let us rise to meet this moment with clarity, compassion, and courage. Let us be fair, not because it is easy, but because it is right. Let us build a culture where truth is not tribal, and justice is not for sale.
Only then can we truly say we are one people, with one destiny, walking in the light of truth.

A very well written editorial piece! As the saying goes, a word to the wise is enough! Unity prevails when one discards entrenched blind sided opinions and considers that of the majority’s.
We are never wrong when in retrospect we think things over, and adjust to a more prudent conviction, instead of continually relying on one’s sole blind sided convictions. I have learned my lesson the hard way and I’m determined to adjust to the circumstances of democracy or what we generally claim as the democratic principles. That principle will never put you in a bind!
Thank you listeners!
