Bolingbrook Illinois ,August 5, 2023: The annual Mmrantie Association’s Taste of Ghana Barbecue is not just the celebration and enjoyment of Ghanaian cuisine. It amongst others fosters unity and progress in the growing Ghanaian community, where the first and second generations of Ghanaian immigrants congregate and celebrate culture and tradition. Since last year, the group instituted a back-to-school program as part of the highlights marking the festivities. Children whose parents are members of the group received school supplies and gift cards. The Association sponsored the gift card for middle school and high school graduates again this year.The CEO and President of The Braiding Bar Inc. in Romeoville Illinois, Maame Yaa Cann, donated 50 backpacks to students in the community. The president of the Ghana National Council, Mr. Kassim Abubakari, presented the gift cards to the students. The Mmrantie Association president, Mr. Edward Owusu, thanked members of the community for defying the downpour earlier and showing up in their numbers. He thanked Maame Yaa Cann for her generous donation and urged others to emulate her gesture.
Bolingbrook is one of the growing suburban areas where Ghanaian immigrants can openly and emphatically praise the historic roots that planted them there. This year’s event is more than the entertainment that it offers. It has become the second-largest celebration of Ghanaian culture in the Chicago area besides the spectacular Ghanafest, organized by the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago.
The Taste of Ghana BBQ is unique in that it is both historic and filled with the currency of youthful enthusiasm and the pride of the older generation leaving a legacy to the inheritors of their culture and traditions.

Taste of Ghana in Bolingbrook was an awesome program. We hope they continue every year. We the adults had a great time eating various local Ghanaian dishes and socializing, and the youth were recognized with prizes for graduating various grades. The young ones had their bouncy castles and recieved back-to-school packages. Congrats to Mmrantie kuo Bolingbrook for organizing it.
