The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Setor Dumelo, has announced a significant new welfare intervention aimed at enhancing the nutrition of primary school students within his constituency. Starting March 2, 2026, the lawmaker will begin the daily distribution of free, Ghana-made cocoa drinks to all public basic school pupils from Class 1 to Class 4.
The initiative is designed to provide a healthy, energy-boosting beverage to young learners during school hours, acknowledging the vital role of nutrition in early childhood education and cognitive development. By specifically utilizing Ghana-made products, the program also seeks to stimulate the local economy and instill a sense of pride in homegrown agricultural commodities among the youth.
In a statement released through his official communication channels, Mr. Dumelo emphasized that this gesture is a core component of his “idey4u” mission, a slogan that has come to define his grassroots approach to representation and constituent support. He noted that focusing on pupils in the lower primary bracket ensures that resources are directed toward those in their most formative years of public education.
Logistical arrangements for the rollout are currently being finalized in coordination with school authorities and local suppliers. While the initial announcement has generated significant interest across the Ayawaso West Wuogon municipality, the Member of Parliament’s office indicated that a comprehensive schedule and further operational details will be dispatched to the beneficiary schools in the coming week to ensure a seamless launch.
The move marks another step in the MP’s broader agenda to address social needs within the constituency, ranging from educational support to community health. As the March 2 start date approaches, the program is expected to benefit thousands of children, providing a consistent source of nourishment while highlighting the versatility of Ghana’s cocoa industry.
