The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, received the outgoing High Commissioner of India, His Excellency Manish Gupta, at the Ministry on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, to mark the end of the envoy’s successful tour of duty in Ghana.
During the farewell call, the Foreign Minister praised the High Commissioner’s diligent efforts in deepening the long-standing relationship between the two nations, which dates back to the era of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, and India’s Jawaharlal Nehru.
Minister Ablakwa specifically highlighted significant advancements in trade, investment, health, agriculture, and education that have flourished during High Commissioner Gupta’s tenure. He noted that bilateral trade has reached record levels, with India now ranking as one of Ghana’s top trading partners.
In the health sector, the Minister commended the collaboration on pharmaceutical manufacturing and the ongoing support for Ghana’s ambition to become a regional vaccine production hub. In agriculture, he cited the transfer of technology and technical expertise that has helped modernize Ghanaian farming practices.
A major highlight of the discussion was the impact of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program. Minister Ablakwa particularly acknowledged the vital support provided by the Government of India in the field of capacity-building, making special mention of the establishment of the Foreign Service Institute. This institute serves as a testament to their fruitful collaboration, providing world-class diplomatic training for Ghanaian officials. He also noted the numerous scholarships provided by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), which have allowed hundreds of Ghanaian students to pursue higher education in India in critical fields such as engineering, medicine, and information technology.
The Minister concluded the meeting by reaffirming Ghana’s steadfast commitment to building upon this strategic partnership to reach new heights of cooperation, particularly in digital public infrastructure and renewable energy.
In his response, High Commissioner Gupta expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the government and the Ghanaian people for the warm cooperation and hospitality extended to him throughout his tour.
He reaffirmed that India remains a committed partner to Ghana’s development, dedicated to further fortifying the bond between the two countries for their mutual prosperity in the years ahead.
