The Ambassadors of Hungary and Egypt have formally proposed a €200,000 trilateral medical support project during a courtesy call on the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

The initiative, led by Hungarian Ambassador Tamás Fehér and Egyptian Ambassador Wael Fathy, seeks to bolster Ghana’s healthcare delivery through the provision of specialized medical experts and essential equipment. Envisioned as a pilot project, the diplomats indicated that the collaboration could eventually scale into a larger, long-term partnership between the three nations depending on its initial success.

During the meeting, the delegation requested that the Ministry of Health select a beneficiary hospital within the Greater Accra Region to host the implementation and provide an official endorsement for the project. To formalize the agreement, a Memorandum of Understanding will be drafted to outline the specific types of medical equipment to be supplied and the professional specialties of the personnel to be deployed. The proposal also emphasizes sustainability, including a capacity-building component designed to train Ghanaian medical professionals to maintain the project’s long-term impact.

Minister Mintah Akandoh welcomed the proposal and expressed the Ministry’s commitment to partnerships that facilitate knowledge exchange and improve healthcare infrastructure. He reaffirmed that the government remains open to international cooperation that prioritizes capacity building and the enhancement of medical services for the Ghanaian people. The project marks a significant step in strengthening diplomatic and technical ties in the health sector between Ghana, Hungary, and Egypt.
