The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has assured the chiefs and people of the Oti Region that the government is committed to reversing the region’s historically poor health indicators through sustained investment.
Speaking during a two-day working visit to the area, the Minister emphasized that changing the narrative of local healthcare delivery requires a collective effort from District Chief Executives, Members of Parliament, traditional leaders, and the clergy. As a tangible sign of this commitment, the Minister was presented with a 100-acre site specifically earmarked for the construction of the Oti Regional Hospital, a project viewed as a cornerstone for improving medical access in the region.
A primary focus of the visit was addressing the critical shortage of medical personnel, following the revelation that only two out of 23 doctors posted to the region last year reported for duty.
To combat this trend, Mr. Akandoh held closed-door deliberations with the Regional Minister and local stakeholders to develop attractive incentive packages for newly posted medical officers.
During his tour, the Minister visited the Dambai Polyclinic, Worawora District Hospital, and Jasikan District Hospital to interact with frontline staff and commend their service.
The visit concluded with a town hall meeting where the Minister appealed for community support to help create a conducive environment for healthcare workers and improve overall health outcomes for residents.
