The Ministry of Health has confirmed it is aware of a query letter issued to Staff Nurse Bernice Aboagye regarding alleged “unprofessional comments” she made against Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, which has been circulated on social media. The Ministry commended the Ghana Health Service for acting promptly to uphold the prescribed Code of Conduct and tenets of professionalism for health workers.
Despite the professionalism demonstrated by the Ghana Health Service, Minister Akandoh has personally appealed to the Service to “temper justice with mercy” in resolving the matter. The Minister emphasized that both he and the government welcome divergent views and constructive criticism, stating this aligns with his commitment to fostering tolerance and openness to diverse opinions.
However, the Ministry also used the opportunity to urge all health workers to express their opinions responsibly and respectfully, cautioning against the use of insults to ensure the healthy growth of the sector. While stressing that the Ministry has no objection to demonstrations as a legitimate constitutional right, it will not condone the use of abusive language or acts of indiscipline during such activities.
The Ministry concluded by reminding all health professionals to be circumspect in their public and social media communications. The release was signed by Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions & Spokesperson, on October 12, 2025.
