The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng popularly known as A Plus, has announced a policy shift in the administration of the constituency’s Common Fund, pledging to dedicate a significant percentage of the windfall to direct food support for residents. In a statement outlining his vision for local governance, the lawmaker emphasized that the “Busy Team” in Gomoa Central has taken a deliberate stance to prioritize immediate human needs alongside traditional infrastructure development.
A-Plus argued that while roads and large-scale projects are essential, the primary responsibility of leadership is to ensure that no child goes hungry and the elderly are not abandoned.
Drawing comparisons to social safety nets in developed nations, the MP noted that many countries provide designated centers where citizens can access food and basic necessities with dignity. He lamented that despite Ghana’s vast natural resources, many citizens lack these basic protections.
The lawmaker clarified that this initiative should not be viewed as charity, but rather as the rightful return of taxpayer money and national resources to the people. He maintained that leadership must recognize that a hungry population is fundamentally incapable of building a prosperous nation.
The MP further stated that as efforts continue to build local industries and create sustainable jobs for the long term, the government has a moral obligation to care for the immediate well-being of its citizens today. He concluded by reiterating his commitment to ensuring that every constituent has access to food, framing the policy as a necessary measure to protect human dignity within Gomoa Central.
