Ghana’s Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has concluded a high-level diplomatic mission at the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, where he actively promoted President John Mahama’s transformative “Accra Reset” healthcare agenda.
Throughout the three-day summit, the Minister engaged in strategic discussions aimed at securing health sovereignty and resilience for the continent. During a high-level panel on health financing, Mr. Akandoh spotlighted President Mahama’s pivotal decision to uncap the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) as a foundational reform that has significantly strengthened Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure and financial sustainability.
In a session focused on local industrialization, Mr. Akandoh delivered a keynote address on behalf of President Mahama, emphasizing the urgent need for Africa to scale up the domestic manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.
The Minister also held a bilateral meeting with Kenya’s Health Minister to discuss the implementation of Ghana’s upcoming Free Primary Healthcare Programme, which is scheduled for a nationwide rollout by April 2026.
These engagements underscored Ghana’s commitment to inclusive growth and self-reliance, positioning the nation as a leader in pioneering African-led solutions to the continent’s most pressing healthcare challenges.
