Ghanaian Rap Icon and crowd-puller, Sarkodie, is billed to perform at this year’s Ghanafest in Chicago. The Ghana National Council, GNC, and its affiliates with Loggy Entertainment have made this mega appearance possible. The event is on July 29, 2023, from 11 am to 10 pm at the historic Washington Park, 5500 S. Russell Drive. He follows other great stars from Ghana who have performed at the most spectacular African cultural festival in the diaspora . They are Shatta Wale, Nana Boro, and many others.

Sarkodie started rapping at a young age to express his emotions. American hip-hop legends like Jay-Z, Tupac, and Biggie influenced him. He rose to fame with his debut album Makye in 2009, which featured the hit single Baby. The feat established him as one of the pioneers of hiplife, a fusion of hip-hop and highlife music worldwide.

He has collaborated with many local and international artists, such as the late Castro, Oxlade, Zlatan, Rexxie, Kranium, Harmonize, King Promise, Kwaw Kese, Vic Mensa, and Giggs. He is known for his versatility, charisma, and social consciousness, as he raps in Twi, English, and Pidgin and addresses issues such as poverty, corruption, education, and love with his music.
