Ghanaian music icon Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has passed away at the age of 60 after a short illness. According to a statement from his family, Daddy Lumba died in hospital on Saturday. The legendary highlife artist was known for his immense contribution to Ghanaian music, with a career spanning almost four decades.
Daddy Lumba’s music touched countless lives, and he is credited with 33 albums and over 200 songs that explored themes such as love, forgiveness, and social issues. He inspired many young Ghanaian musicians to pursue highlife music, a genre synonymous with the country. Tributes have poured in from prominent figures, including President John Mahama and former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who described Daddy Lumba as a “true music icon”.
Fellow artists such as Sarkodie, Guru, Sista Afia, and M.anifest have also paid tribute to the legendary musician, eulogizing his incredible talent. The family has requested privacy as they navigate their grief, and details of funeral arrangements will be made public in the coming days.
