The Police Administration has announced the immediate promotion of several officers whose unwavering integrity led to the seizure of a significant quantity of narcotics in the Volta Region.
The officers were honored after they flatly rejected a bribe of GHC 1,000,000 offered by suspects in an attempt to evade arrest and have the evidence compromised.
The operation, which took place during a routine enforcement exercise, resulted in the interception of ten slabs of a substance suspected to be cocaine. Forensic experts have valued the seized narcotics at approximately GHC 1,032,650. Despite the massive financial inducement offered by the traffickers—a sum nearly equal to the street value of the drugs themselves—the officers maintained their professional oath and proceeded with the arrest and confiscation.
In a statement following the promotion, the police leadership highlighted the conduct of the officers as a benchmark for the entire service. By prioritizing national security and the rule of law over personal gain, these individuals have set a precedent for ethical conduct within the force.
The decision to promote them is part of a broader strategy to incentivize honesty and restore public trust in the security agencies’ ability to tackle high-level organized crime.
The seized substances remain in police custody as part of the ongoing investigation, and the suspects involved are expected to face charges related to drug trafficking and attempted bribery of public officials. This development has been widely praised as a victory for the country’s anti-narcotics efforts and a testament to the presence of principled personnel within the ranks of the Ghana Police Service.
