Chicago, IL-The Ghana Nurses Association Illinois (GNAI), one of the youngest yet fastest‑growing Ghanaian professional organizations in the diaspora, has once again demonstrated the extraordinary power of unity, compassion, and service. In what has become a defining hallmark of the association, GNAI began the year 2026 with a remarkable community outreach at Feed My Starving Children, mobilizing what is now recognized as the largest Ghanaian volunteer group in the entire Chicago metropolitan area.
Fifty‑four members signed up for the event, and forty‑two checked in, an impressive turnout that reflects the association’s deep commitment to humanitarian service and community impact.
A Message of Gratitude and Love From the President
In a heartfelt statement, GNAI President Laura Cynthia Boakye praised the volunteers for their dedication and the spirit of love they brought to the outreach:
“A sincere gratitude to everyone that made it to Feed My Starving Children today. Fifty‑four volunteered but forty‑two checked in. Your remarkable dedication and commitment to GNAI and the community is greatly appreciated. Your selfless service and unwavering efforts have made a meaningful difference in the lives of many. Indeed, you are the true meaning of Valentine, as you spread love on this Valentine’s Day.”
The results of the day were nothing short of extraordinary. With the collective effort of GNAI volunteers:
- 97 boxes of food were packed
- 20,952 meals were prepared
- Enough to feed 57 children for an entire year
Beyond the numbers, the outreach also provided an opportunity for participating high school students to earn essential volunteer-hours, another example of GNAI’s commitment to nurturing the next generation.
A Culture of Service That Defines GNAI
Though young in its organizational life, GNAI has quickly become a beacon of service, professionalism, and community leadership. The association continues to set the standard for Ghanaian diaspora engagement, proving that when people come together with purpose, compassion, and unity, the impact reaches far beyond the walls of any event.
President Boakye captured this spirit perfectly:
“Thank you for your outstanding service and for setting such a powerful example of generosity and kindness. May God bless us all.”
A Valentine’s Day of Love in Action
While many celebrated Valentine’s Day with flowers and chocolates, GNAI chose a different expression of love, rooted in sacrifice, compassion, and service to the vulnerable. Their actions fed children across the world, supported youth volunteers, and strengthened the bonds within the Ghanaian community in Illinois.
United under the proud colors of the Ghana flag, the volunteers served with a spirit that blended national pride with boundless compassion.
This first outreach of 2026 sets a powerful tone for the year ahead, reaffirming GNAI’s mission: We care and serve with joy.
